Hi Scotty, I love your videos. Thanks for all the in depth information.
I reside in Portland, Oregon. I recently purchased a 2007 Tundra, clear title, from a reputable honda dealer in California for $24,000 all in, including shipping to Portland. It has 4x4, 5.7engine, double cab, aftermarket trailer brake, with only 21,000 original miles. I ran carfax, NVIM, and autocheck and all the information was identical and checks out. When I originally spoke with the dealer, he mentioned that it belonged to an elderly couple who barely drove it.
When I received the title it had the original owners information on it, so I googled them and the information all checked out...the elderly owner passed in October.
I have a family friend who is the master technician at the local Toyota dealer up here and always have my Toyotas inspected by him after I buy them. He said this one looks amazing with no engine issues or anything that, but I imagine since this engine didn't get much use then I may want to do some protocols to clean it out and keep it in tip top shape so it can last me a million miles, hopefully more.
What do you recommend I do? I was thinking of doing an engine clean with some additive, but thought I should get your opinion just incase there was anything more you could recommend getting taken care of or changed out etc. I own a cattle ranch, so I am always towing. Have been driving it for about a month with no issues.
Thanks for all you do, Merry Christmas, and have a prosperous 2023.
You should have had him check it out BEFORE you bought it. The words "reputable" and "dealer" cannot be used legally in the same sentence. I would look at the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual and divide the mileage by 2. For example, if it says to change the oil and filter at 10K miles, do it at 5K miles. Same with the trans, etc. For future reference, information from carfax, autocheck and other such outfits is not reliable as it is easily manipulated, especially by dealers. Did you see the actual service records for this vehicle?
driving it for about a month with no issues.
I recommend you don't fix what aint broken. No snake oils or additives.
Just make sure you're up to date on maintenance. Transmission fluids, driveline fluids, air filter... that sorta thing
Hi, yes, I have the service records in a folder that came with the truck, it appears it was serviced 10 times altogether between the records i got and what carfax/auto check has on file. The service records match what car fax and auto check have for the most part. There are some records car fax has that the folder is missing and vice versa. But the mileage matches up.
Any suggestions on engine cleaning protocols or additives?

Was the timing belt done? If not, even though the mileage is low, it is an old belt on an interference engine, and can damage it if it breaks.
I would get that checked asap if it were me.
