my 2008 Honda Accord EXL V6 It had 640 thousand miles one owner and it ran excellent until February 7th at 1:30 am when I hear a horn blaring, I looked out my front door to see my car on fire, the whole thing captured on my home security camera. I contacted Honda and explained if my car had been parked in the garage instead of the street, it could’ve been BAD ! Long story short, it took the firemen 7 minutes to arrive and by then the whole engine compartment is in flames, they couldn’t find a cause, I held out hope Honda would investigate, I drove it earlier that evening and it ran perfect as usual, I sold it as junk for 285.00 and bought a 2016 Accord touring V6 , which finally brings me to my question about the cylinder deactivation system and if that will become a future issue  ?

First of all, sorry for your loss and good thing your house didn't burn down. Many others with Hyundais and Kias aren't as lucky as you.

Anyways, cylinder deactivation can cause wear and tear on an engine but in this case you should change the oil frequently (no more than every 5k miles or 1 year) and you should be fine. If it helps our 2014 Odyssey with that engine hasn't had problems. Extra oil usage would be the main issue with those if you delay oil changes. You might also be able to get rid of the cylinder deactivation (although not the software, just disable the system esentially), but Day Walker might know how to do that with Hondas.

Take care of this new one and it might last. Lastly, for in-depth reading, there is a page in the FAQ about "all you need to know about cylinder deactivation, " check it out!
