I am trying to help someone with a 2008 Nissan Titan with 6.5L gas engine. The problem is that when it is cold or cool/damp out, his truck will crank (turn over) but not start. Small cars cannot jump start the truck, only another truck can. Usually runs great after a jump. Until the next day.
Initially, I cleaned the battery terminals and it helped for a month or so, then I just changed out the negative battery cable due to excessive corrosion. I read in Alldata where cam position sensors could cause a no start, so I changed those. No luck.
Yesterday he drove and the battery ran down while in town and didn't have enough juice to turn over.
I'm down to thinking his alternator, which tests good from 4 different scan tools is working intermittently. Are there any ideas out there that can help me out? I'm trying to keep costs low for this customer.
Well if it always starts with another truck running that means it just doesn't have enough electricity to start itself. So either the battery is shot, you have a drain on the battery when it sits, or the alternator's bad. You should be able to test all three. You can test for a battery drain as in my video fixing battery drain on your car. And you can have a good battery alternator test. They're hooked up to check the rest
