Dear Scotty, I was given a 2008 Jetta, 138,000 miles, automatic transmission by a family member. Is it worth putting money and time into or should I just sell the thing and buy a civic? What are common problems with the VW 2.5 engine?

Do exactly what you said sell the thing and get a civic. I've had one for years and I've never needed any work on it and VW have all kinds of prob as they age.
