2009 Highlander brake pedal pressure

Hi!! About 6 months ago I had all my brakes done, bled, etc. It's been working fine until the past week. I notice while it does brake fine, when i'm at a stop I have to keep pushing the brake pedal further and further to keep it from rolling. Once i'm at a complete stop after 5 seconds it will slowly bump forward with a popping kind of a sound, sounds like the pressure is coming off the rotors/pads. Then I have to push the brake pedal harder. I am going to take it back into the shop tomorrow but want to see what you guys have to say. I looked under the car and don't see any brake fluid leaking or any kinda mess around the wheels. thank you!

Sounds like air in the lines. Did the shop you brought it to use a bidirectional scan tool to bleed the ABS?

@chucktobias I am not sure. It was Brakes for Less in Florida.

@marksamis7 Well it has been six months so it may not be fair to blame them. Chances are anything they did wrong would have show up right away. That vehicle is 16 years old now and it could have developed new issues (master cylinder, brake hoses, etc.). Better get it checked out since it's a serious safety issue.

@chucktobias completely agree, and that's what I thought too. I'm taking it to my independent mechanic so he'll have a fresh pair of eyes to diagnose. thank you!

@chucktobias master cylinder was failing. He wasn't able to pull a code on it and also wasn't able to test it, but he checked everything else and ruled other stuff out. He said our best hope was to do the master cylinder replacement, but stated "if it was my car that's what I would do". So, I gave him the go ahead and it is working. Cost me 700, the other option was to replace the ABS brake control module, but that would cost 1500 and also said it wasn't a guarantee.

There is no "code" for a failing master cylinder. I'm surprised a mechanic would even attempt that. (Maybe he was actually looking for ABS codes?)

Anyway, thanks for letting us know how it turned out, sounds good! A little expensive though, but I don't know how much the master cylinder he installed cost (they're about $100 at rockauto.com, but that's not OEM) or how much labor was involved.
