2009 Mazda 5 Transmission Issue

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2009 Mazda 5. It has 150,000 miles on it. It is an automatic. So recently my sister was driving the car and while she was driving it the AT light came on as well as the check engine light. I scanned it with my scan tool and it showed up as a P0753. I had the transmission fluid replaced about 5,000 miles ago so its quite clean and I also re-checked the level and it isn't low. I haven't taken it to a garage yet and was wondering if I could get an opinion? Other than the transmission the car runs great and has no issues.

Thanks

I'm guessing you have the 5 speed automatic made by Jatco?

P0753 if I'm not mistaken means the gearbox thinks that the SSA solenoid (Shift solenoid A - 1st, 2nd, 5th gear) is not functioning correctly.

Sadly that might not be the problem, These units are notorious for the EPC solenoid going bad causing the oil starvation and other solenoids to misbehave.

I'd first test the solenoids resistance values, and consider inspecting and cleaning the valve body and maybe even getting a solenoid kit

Sidenote:

At the time both Volvo, VW, LandRover and Jaguar also had issues with the EPC solenoids (on different gearboxes) - all had it at almost exactly 250,000km (~155 k miles). I refuse to believe that this wasn't planed.

You need to have the car checked by a transmission pro. Couple of things can trip that code. t
