Hey Scotty,

What are your thoughts on the second generation Volvo s80. I know you made a video on the 07 XC70 I believe which is basically an s80, with an aisin automatic transmission. They are solid tanks but what are your thoughts on buying a 2009-2014 or so s80 or maybe even s60 with around 100k miles.

This specific one is a non-turbo 3.2 but I heard the T5's are legendary just scared the turbo's will be unreliable. I don't expect the car's to last 3 400k miles like a Lexus but I would be happy with 200k or so if I maintain it. Prices around $5-8k.

The generations im talking about are from the late 2000's to the mid 2010's.

If it were me, I'd look elsewhere. The newer model Volvos are not as reliable as their old school counterparts.

I see but I remember Scotty made a video on the XC70 from 2007. He said they were pretty solidly built. If I find one lower mileage and good price, and a mechanic says everything is fine, would it be horrible? I just really like the line-up.

@mod_man
He put it at the top of all European car's Mercedes BMW he said he had many customer's buy Volvo's w/ 100k miles and use it another 100k.

@mod_man
The 2015+ have very complex transmissions and are extremly expensive im talking about like 07-14

If you really like the Volvo cars, then you are on the right train of thought. That is, get it inspected to make sure nothing is majorly wrong with it, and if it checks out and you like it...enjoy! I said they aren't as reliable as their older counterparts, but I never said they would be horrible. And if it makes you happy, that's what matters. {black}:cool:

P.S. - Yes, you want to avoid the '15 up or the potential for costly transmission issues is there. They are good looking cars though in my opinion.

@mod_man
Yeah I know. But in the end, Im not even at driving age yet but Im thinking about cars and I care more about reliability, safety, and manintenance than most other teens. I also know more about car's than other people so I like to be on track for the future. Thank you! I really like Volvo's and Lexus's but the Lexus's are older, not as safe, and are generally really expensive. Volvo's loose their resale value and I could actually afford getting a let's say 2013 where as a Lexus I would have to get a 2004. Thanks

You are right on that. Lexus has one of the best resale values out there and Volvo does offer you a significant savings. You're welcome and I'm glad to hear you are thinking ahead and doing research. More people need to do that.
