I’ve had my 2010 Lexus ES 350 for a few months now and have only put in 91 octane as recommended/required (I’m not really sure) by Lexus. I see people saying that they run regular in the car just fine but I’m not going to go off of what some random person says on Reddit. The 3.5 v6 in the car is used in tons of Toyota/Lexus products but they call for regular fuel. Strangely enough the next model year (2011) Lexus began to call for regular fuel at the expense of 4 hp. What fuel do you think I should use?

The answer is right in your owner's manual.
This is how I interpret it:
- Premium fuel is required to reach peak performance. (which begs the question: how much more performance is that?).
- You may use gasoline rated as low as 87 octane.
- You might get knocking. And if it knocks a lot, it could lead to damage (obviously)
- If it knocks a bit uphill, don't worry about it.
So basically, if it doesn't knock, and you don't care about a few extra ponies, then use regular fuel.
