You're the best, Scotty

2 questions, my car, the Mazda, I bought it new in 2010, 156K miles.

(1) The last 15 months,  the SES (Service Engine Soon) light has been on. The code said a minor evap leak. AutoZone said Gas Cap. Replaced the cap months ago. What I noticed is that the splash shield broke off, I have no CLUE how that happened, it's the cover at the top of the fuel neck. That is what is causing the SES code. What should I do about it? Replacing the gas neck would be a LAST resort, that's a big job. I could just leave it, but I won't pass Ohio E-Check because the SES light is on.

I could be wrong about that splash shield not being the cause of the SES code. However, I have no fuel leaks, no issues whatsoever with the fuel.

(2) Second is just a curiosity. I have not had to replace the fuel pump, starter, alternator, or clutch yet, I baby the car. If the fuel pump goes out, on that model car, can I access it by taking out the back seat?? That would be SO much easier. This is more planning haha.

Thanks Scotty! Laughing Out Loud

  1. Yeah you can get the pump from the back seat. But really those evap codes are a bunch of crap the car runs fine it won't hurt anything but it could be the fill in that could be tons of things you need a dealer level scan tool and a smoke machine to figure out where that kind of a small leak comes from
