Recently found a used 20120 Toyota RAV4. Looked at the Carfax before I went to look at it in person. It has 161,024 miles on it with 4WD. They are listing it for $6700 (with seems pretty high given when I looked at it earlier today). The used dealer was closed so I couldn't test drive it or listen to its engine, but I was able to look at most of it. Everything seems great! There's no rust on the frame and the frame looks straight (given it has some rear cosmetic damage. There is a dent in the rear with some plastic missing. I am going to go back to look at it later (and can uploads pictures as well). However, when I checked KBB and Edmunds for the trade in prices they range from $3500-4500. I know the odds of it being dropped that much are low, but wanted to ask your thoughts! Depending on how the test drive goes (hopefully soon) I would ask to get it checked by a mechanic or upload the OBDII codes I get here. Thank y'all so much for the help!

what engine and what trim. Is it v6 or v4, base, sport or limited?

I meant to put 2010! That was a mistake on me for posting while tired! It’s a v4 base. I’m gonna talk more about the price after I test drive it because they haven’t detailed it yet!

Dangggg, mind-blowing that the toyota rav4 still exists 18,099 years in the future... Crazy. For real though, dealers are always trying to hike up prices. If you sell to one for 2k he's gonna try and re-sale it for 7k. That's just how it be. What you can do is find out what's wrong with it to try to get em to lower the tag for ya, speaking of that rear damage and potentially more (mechanic check out + codes) And patience is key unfortunately. I had to wait a whole month to drop a 32k car down to 24500, tax and licence included. 2021 toyota camry SE with OEM+ upgrades. You have to painstakingly haggle and if you keep at it you can probably get the price you want. Could be shorter if that dealer wants to move inventory. If you don't want to put in that effort I'd say that 2010 ain't worth the premium price they are currently offering.

Haha yeah, I wrote this waaaay too early. Thanks for that story though, I know patience and determination is key sometimes, so that helped to push me further towards it. A month is a lot time but worth it the car is reliable and gets the ok

Sounds like a good deal if your mechanic gives ok. You can take advantage of cosmetic issues to lower the price.

I was planning to use the cosmetic damage to bring the price down. I’m still trying to find a reputable mechanic that could check it but for now I’m planning to check the codes.

$6700? I saw a 2012 Limited V6 listed for $17,500 in California. I'd jump on it if you can test drive it and definitely have a mechanic check it out and only buy if clean title.

Still I'd shoot for $6000

I mistyped, it’s a 2010 with a v4! I after going to look back at it I’m definitely interested but want to get a mechanic to look at it first to be sure! I was hoping to get it down towards $5000 but that’s because of the damage on the back and the small dents and scratches that would bring it’s price down

Get it checked out, get it under $5000, and it could be a good deal.
