Good morning/evening everyone, I own a 2011 Nissan Versa with a 1.8 4 cylinder. Recently, it’s been giving me some inaccurate readings of the gas meter, and it also consumes a lot of gas. Also, when I start up my car (like say for example first thing in the morning) it doesn’t make any noise from the serpentine belt area, but when I run some errands, I crank it again, and there’s a screeching noise coming from the serpentine belt area. And, it goes away after I turn it off and on a couple of times. What can be the issue to these problems? Please help!

Sounds like it's either a bad pully that the belt rides on or your your belt might be rubbing against something or both. Get in there real good with a flash light and see if you can see any marks from the belt on the rest of the engine parts. I've seen other things make noise like that but that's where I would start.

As far as the gas problem goes sounds like your running too rich BUT. Check the basic things: Air filter, Spark plugs, and see if you can smell fuel because it could be a fuel leak. Oh and try and get fuel from a different place(s) for a week or so I've seen that even clear up weird issues like this.

Check belt for wear and damage. As said check the basics, spark plugs, wires, coils. If able to use scanner and check the live data for the mass air flow . Good idea to use different gas. They all have there own additive packages. Few weeks back this young woman started getting gas at shell . Her car started to shake and run weird. She was told try different gas, she did and it went away. Her car didn't like the winter additive package used by shell.

It definitely sounds like a dragging pulley that when it gets hot it sticks. I would check as said above with a flashlight while it’s happening to see if you can see where it’s sticking causing belt slip
