2012 Accord - Check Fuel Cap Warning

So I have 2012 accord with about 70K miles on it (I'm original owner, don't drive much). Two years ago the "check fuel cap" warning came on so I went to a dealer and bought a new OEM fuel cap and replaced it.  No problems since 2023 until 3 days ago.  Same warning came back after only 2 years.  So, I unscrewed the cap, inspected it, all looks good. Greased the rubber seal with silicon grease (just in case), screwed it back in and deleted the code using Blue Driver.  Ordered another OEM cap online (in case I need to replace it again), but after driving the car for 3 days, nothing came back yet. I never tap off gas in case someone decides to ask me...  Anyway, just wondering if anyone else had the same issue with similar year accord.  Is it the cheaply made OEM fuel caps these days, charcoal canister going bad or something else?

It might help if you would let us know what OBD2 code(s) you are seeing.

@chucktobias, the engine light did not even come on. It's the wording "CHECK FUEL CAP" on the dash that came on. However, I didn't really check for codes. Probably should've done that. All I did is pressed erase any excising codes. Maybe next time I'll check the codes when or if same problem ever come up. Maybe I'm overthinking this and probably shouldn't even have asked this question. My car is 2012 2.4L Accord, 70k miles. automatic (don't think that makes any difference though)

That's not really relevant. Problems have to reach a certain level before that light is triggered and there could be pending codes prior to that happening. As a first step I would scan for codes at the next opportunity, and also check live data for any issues pointing to a problem.

@chucktobias Yea, that's the plan, so far so good though, going the 4th day. Hopefully, it doesn't come back, we'll see..

Bear in mind that it is highly unlikely that the fuel cap has sensors in it telling the ECU that it's bad. The computer is making that call based on some other criteria, probably an evap leak that has not gotten bad enough yet to trigger the check engine light.
