Hi! I have a 2013 F150 with the 3.5L ecoboost. I had an issue with the smell of burning oil coming into the cab. After some hunting and researching online I traced it to the vacuum booster pump (DL3Z-2A451-B) seal (DL3Z-2A572-A) being bad, which leaked oil down onto the passengerside turbo and burned it. I purchased a new seal and replaced it last week (a real PITA job ❗ ) and and also applied RTV on the two spots where it meets the valve cover. After that I cleaned the whole area up with degreaser and all was good. The smell returned a couple of days ago and the leak has returned. My theory is the RTV got messed up when I was putting it back on and is the source of the leak. Is it possible that the actual pump is bad and leaking from the back and needs to be replaced? I can't find anything online saying the actual pumps can go bad. And yes, I'm trying to save what money I can (family of 5) and not replacing the pump if it's still good.
If you don't have a scanner capable of telling you the pump is shot, have a shop who does alot of ford work with a dealer level scan tool do a diagnosis.
It'll be an hour's worth of labor but I suspect $120 is cheaper than the part.
EDIT - just checked the price of a new motorcraft unit, $96 so it's up to you if you want to be 100% sure with the diagnosis or shotgun another part.
