2013 Genesis Coupe blower motor

Hello, I own a 2013 2.0T Genesis Coupe and the blower motor recently stopped working.

On startup the motor only spins 1/16 of the way then never work after that.

I checked all the fuses and none are blown, I disconnected the blower motor and connected it straight to the battery and it spun fine. The motor has a little resistance to it, if I try to spin it by hand then it will rotate once max.

The switch seems to be working fine because my display shows the fan level changing when I play with the switch.

The resistor looks clean and doesn't smell burnt. I disconnected the blower and put 1 probe on the chassis if the car and one on the plug of the blower motor and on the lowest setting I'm getting about 1.5 Volts and on the max setting I'm getting only 5 volts.

I'm thinking the resistor is broke but I don't want to take a chance and replace something that is working. Which component should I replace? Thanks

I would replace the blower resistor.  They are relatively inexpensive and since your blower motor works when hooked to 12V direct, what else could it be.  It is very common for these resistors to go out.

What are the chances the motor is shot and causing the resistor to break? The stupid thing cost more than an OEM blower in Canada. I'd never buy a Chinese blower but thoughts on going for a non OEM resistor?

Autozone has the blower motor for $46.99 and the resistor for $22.99. If they work, they work.

No AutoZone in Canada

There are 5 Autozone stores in Ontario and at least one in Ottawa.
