2014 nissan maxima ECM cannot be programmed due to aftermarket alarm system

Hello scotty I have been watching your car videos for quite some time. I got the ecm and negative battery cable replaced and the mechanic at the nissan dealership said that the ecm cannot fully be programmed because he needs a code from the aftermarket alarm system. I wasn't even aware that my vehicle came equipped with an aftermarket alarm system until recently, is this true what the mechanic is saying in regards to needing a code for the alarm system in order to program ecm? If so how can I get the code? or if you have any suggestions for the mechanic to obtain this code. Any kind of feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Physically remove the alarm control unit and completely replace the affected wiring harness with OEM. All problems go away. Harness replacement is 99% of the time damaged by the untrained idiots who badly strip/cut wires, make twist connections (no solder, no insulation) and cover with black tape, and generally mutilate the original wiring. some mechanics will waste 20-30 hours trying to keep harness and fix damage (they get paid also), but do it right and replace harness. There will be no way to repair the holes in the dashboard area where they mounted the control unit, all you can do is try to make it nice, or just live with it. LOL

Maybe you should get rid of the alarm system, if you look for an easy solution. Scotty said that the after major keyboard alarm systems can mess up the OEM alarm system.

@yaser
Can they disable it at the dealership or will I have to pay someone that works with car alarms systems to disable it?

If you can find the person who installed the system, that would be great. If not, any mechanic who knows electrical system and alarms, should be able to do it. Hopefully, by disabling the alarm, your issue will be resolved.

It will be cheaper and probably better to have a 3rd party who installs the specific brand of aftermarket car alarm you have do the work. You should be able to find the module and look for the brand on that. Its also possible your FOB says the brand name of the alarm system. I would have that done and then bring it back to the dealer for the rest of the work.

Well the car is at the dealership, would the module be under the steering wheel where the fuses are? I dont know what brand alarm system is even in my car.

Plus I didn't know the alarm system would become an issue to program the new ecm. So do you agree that the aftermarket alarm is causing a setback to program the ecm?

Ask the dealer to disable it (electrically remove) and see ; )

It is possible for an aftermarket alarm system to cause a problem with the type of repair you are describing. You should find the module and go to the dealer for that specific security system. It will cost you less and it will be less likely something else goes wrong that costs you more. Modules are typically under the hood but are sometimes inside the car it depends on the type of system and installer. The module should look "out of place" and will be the only thing with a brand name on it that does not conform with the specific brand of your vehicle. You'll have to do some searching but its worth it for you to figure this out now so it doesn't become a problem later when you go to change out the battery or some other minor repair.
