Extreme oil dilution in my 2015 CR-V

2015 Honda CRV 2.4 Earth Dreams engine oil diluted with fuel.

Honda did a computer update that made no difference. It is out of warranty. 55000 miles on it. I have used 0W-20 full synthetic oil in it since new with Honda OEM oil filters, serviced at my local Honda dealer. At a 5200 mile when the Honda service reminder turned in the dash. At this point the engine oil is at a 0W-16 viscosity due to extreme fuel dilution. I use Polaris Labs http://www.polarislabs.com as my oil sampling company. There's no excessive wear metals but the oils TBN is clear down to 2 on an oil that starts about 8 TBN. I am in a cold climate with constant short trips. Anyhow, I have decided to change to 50 % left on the in-dash oil change monitor. Do you think this will be sufficient to get the long life from this Honda engine?

One more question, this direct injection engine can cause a severe carbon build-up on the intake valves on the stem. Should I have a BG find a shop run a valve clean service every 50,000 miles or so? Do you have any suggestions on this problem? Thanks.

You could also try changing the oil when climate gets hotter to have new thicker oil for warmer ambient temperature.

It's not a good idea to put thicker oils than recommended by the manufacturer in modern engines. Tolerances are very tight and doing that can play havoc with variable valve timing.

If you live constantly in the cold then yes it can be, but I would limit the change of oil to 5000 miles max. Try to change at 4000miles. If you dont do long trips with high speed it would be recomended to do a valve clean service. High speed causes more air, less fuel, higher temperature and excellent deposit burn off. Also mineral oil burns better. If you have to use Full Synthetic than use oils with lowest NOACK possible, you can buy mineral oils that have good cold properities but have short life.

You could also try changing the oil when climate gets hotter to have new thicker oil for warmer ambient temperature. When its super cold engine oils have averege higher viscosity.

Thanks for your reply.
