Hello Scotty im looking into a 2015 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD it has 190,000 miles asking price is 15,000 I looked it up on Kelley Blue Book and the estimate is about the same. The seller is or at some point was a Toyota engineer. I have seen how he takes care of his other customer’s vehicles everything has to be close to perfection. He claims the vehicle was owned by a fellow professor engineer of Toyota as well. I drove the vehicle and let me tell you its very well kept and drives like a dream for the milage. He claims to have serviced the transmission changed the solenoids, tune up, and differential oil service. He also has all the receipts/documents to prove it. What do you think? Hope to hear from you. Thanks in advance
If an independent mechanic checks it out and says yes, go a head.
Like said above, you want a mechanic to check it out. Also, they are asking so much for a 5 year old car with 190k miles. Haggle hard. KBB estimates are inflated especially if you used the "private-party" estimates. If you get it a little cheaper or you are happy with the price, by all means it could be a good car, but realize thats a lot of miles and when you go back to resell it the value would be diminished.
$15k is a tad rich for my blood, chop it down and if it passes a mechanics inspection, I’d say go for it......
The big worry for me is that 3.5 V6. They're very good engines, but those engines at some point develop an oil leak from the timing cover. It's a huge job to reseal it, and real big pain in a Highlander. It led me to sell my 2008 HL and it had 188k miles on it. If the timing cover reseal was done at in the not too distant past, then I'd feel better about it, if not then it would always be in the back of my mind.
