Scotty,

My wife and I are addicted to your presentations. My wife gets annoyed with me if I watch w/o her, we really enjoy your down to Earth analyses with solutions to the public's car problem. This is a wonderful service you provide. Here's my question:

Noticeable vibrations occur at these test speeds

1st Test

At 24mph vibrations starts

At 30mph vibrations lessen

At 35mph vibrations very little

At 38mph vibrations starts again

2nd Test

At 21mph vibrations starts

At 30mph vibrations lessen

At 34mph vibrations are more

Over 48mph no detectable vibrations

After 50 mph no noticeable vibrations

Skeeter's Auto Service said the rear differential was out of tolerance a small amount and they fixed that but that did not fix the vibrations(they did not charge me since it did not fix the problem).

They checked the u-joints and they were okay - no slack.

They checked motor & transmission mounts-all were tight.

They said the driveshaft might be out of balance, but they were not sure.

What do think is the cause of this vibration?

Out of balance tires and out of spec alignment, worn tie rod ends and wheel bearings, lots of things.

It could be the ball bearings. You can also check the driveshaft but don't replace either one until you find the source of this vibration.

They don't use ball bearings. They use roller bearings.
