Hi Scotty! I received a recall notice for my 2016 Hyundai Sonata hybrid. The connecting rod bearings inside the engine may wear prematurely, which over time can result in engine damage (increasing risk of fire or it can stall, etc.). If the bearing damage is found, they will replace the engine. Dealers will also install a software update containing a Knock Sensor Detection System. I contacted the dealership where I purchased the car but they do not have a date yet to start implementing what the recall letter says. I work night shift and have a 45 minute commute to work. At times, driving the Sonata feels as if I am driving a sitting lawnmower to work but other then that I haven't had any other issues. The car has about 69,000 miles on it. My questions for you is, should I get rid of this car as so as possible or hold on to it in hopes of a replacement engine? Is this going to be a long term issue if they do not replace the engine? When the rod bearings start to wear, is there any type of warnings I should look for? Knowing there is a possibility that the rod bearing can wear out is causing me some anxiety! My husband thinks we should hold on to the car but, I think we should get rid of it! Thank you!-Alison
I think the recall is pretty serious, so I would expect a resolution within a few months. As soon as you get it fixed, sell it.
Thank you. I appreciate your comment and I agree with you.
