Hey everyone. Last year around october i decided to get my self a 2016 Toyota Corolla S with around 32k miles at the time that I got it. I have 38k miles now. I don't drive a heck of a lot, everything is pretty close by where I live, but I intend on keeping the car for a very long time. I intend on changing the fluid once it hits 40k, because as I understand  CVT fluids *should* be changed at regular intervals. However...I've heard varying intervals, times, situations and all of that of when it should be done. From every 30k, 60k, 80k and the numbers are all varying. When should I change that fluid out?

Well because of how problematic these CVTs are, I would suggest changing the fluid AND filter (if it is serviceable) every 40,000 miles. Toyota doesn't really mention their interval, but I believe Nissan calls for a 25,000 mile interval on their CVTs. I know it may sound overkill, but having fresh fluid in there at shorter intervals will extend the life (but by how much...I wouldn't know). Always use the OEM CVT fluid! Never use an aftermarket CVT fluid.

Well, newer Honda's have a "maintenance minder" that gives a code for transmission fluid changes.

And from what I read, the average is 45k miles.  With the code popping up between 35-65k miles.

The computer decides when to throw the code based on how the car is driven (short trips, uphill, maniac driving ...).

I plan to change mine at the lower end (drain and fill), and change the filter(s) once around 100k miles.
