My wife has arranged to get the CVT replaced in her 2017 Chevy Spark, which has ~110k miles on it. She bought the car with 70k miles on it. The transmission intermittently shows symptoms of slipping or failing to shift and throws a code, usually in very hot weather with the AC on, but other times runs OK. She bought the car with 70k miles on it from a dealership, but I don't know the maintenance history.
She has scheduled to have the CVT replaced with a salvaged unit with 38k miles on it. She is following the garage and repair recommendations of her brother, who does not work on vehicles, and she will not listen to my advice on this.
Would a transmission fluid and filter change help the situation? I now see that all Chevy dealership websites recommend changing the fluid every 30k miles. Since the problem is intermittent and hot weather-related, I thought that a fluid and filter change would be worth a try before spending $x,xxx.xx dollars to get a used CVT installed.
Any advice is appreciated.

What is the code?

It couldn't hurt, there's nothing to lose aside from the cost of fluid and filter and it's maintenance that should be done anyway. However it would be no surprise if the CVT was actually shot. If that turns out to be the case I'd dump that thing and get a more reliable car rather than pay $$$$ to gamble on a used transmission.
