I have a 2017 Kia Optima with 57k miles. I did so much research before I purchased a car and really thought I made a smart decision, especially with their warranty. I recently had an issue with a bad spark plug. I learned from you :d that it happened due to the oil issue over time (making the plug dirty with oil). Kia service tried to charge me but I explained why it really happened so since it was due to the oil, it fell under my warranty which is good until 60k miles.
The Kia service center did their oil consumption test. After 1000k miles, my car burnt over 2 quarts of oil. They did the "pointless" combustion cleaning test that Kia requires. After another 1000k miles, the car was still over 2 quarts short.
So now I am waiting for an approval from Kia regarding an engine replacement. I don't know much about cars but since this issue damaged one spark plug, I would imagine that other parts of the car have been affected also. I read the service bulletin on what all is replaced when they do the engine replaced. They are only replacing the engine, oil, filter and oil plug gasket. What other parts of the car could be impacted by this, if any? I want to be prepared to fight them and have everything done right. I want anything that was affected by this to be replaced especially since it is still under the original warranty.
I am not in a position to trade it in right now but as soon as I am, my kiki is gone!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge,
from a mom that isn't taking Kia's crap!
They are only replacing the engine, oil, filter and oil plug gasket.
That is not engine replacement. They should replace the piston rings at least. If the cylinders have low compression, they need to rebuild the whole engine. Although, I doubt they do any of these and they might just replace the engine with a used one and call it a day. Make sure you take the car to a professional mechanic and have it checked after the dealership did the job.
They are going to try to rip you off, guaranteed. Be prepared with your own independent mechanic and get everything in writing. Never buy another Kia again. Lesson learned. These cars should be re-named to;
KIA MINIMA
Know all the damages only in the engine if they actually replace the engine it should be fine
