Hello,

I'm looking into buying a 2017 Nissan Altima with approx 70 000kms. I was wondering if this is a decent car? If it is, how many trouble free kms could one expect? And if it is not, what sort of issues would it encounter?

How many kms you want it to last?

The CVT transmission is the weakest part of that car. I would avoid honestly.

I would say avoid it based on their history with their transmission (not reliable). Depending on your budget might want to consider a Camry or Accord instead especially if you want to keep the vehicle for a long time and as trouble free as possible.

My parents own 2 of the worst vehicles they've owned. One of them is the Nissan Altima which has 99,000 miles. It has no problems yet, but I have heard cases where the CVTs wear out as early as 100,000 miles. I would avoid it and get a Toyota or Honda sedans.

Which model year Altima do they have?

I remembered my dad told me that the Nissan Altima is cheaper than a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry new. He didn't know about the reliability issues back then.

Ik a family friend of mine who has a 2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV its an OK car if you take care of it, but I am just not feeling it with the 2013-2018 generation of Altima, it always felt off IMO with the overall quality and solidity. Older Altimas were better IMO and the current-gen Altima has only been out for 3 years so only time will tell how they hold up. If you can get a decent price and warranty for it and you are happy to get 150-200k km out of it, go ahead since it's only got 70k km, but other than that I would go for an Accord or Camry in the same year. They cost more but they are better made.
