Someone please help. I’m literally loosing sleep over what could be happening with my $72,000 truck. I have a 2018 F-150 with the 5.0 V8 and I’m hearing horror stories about it burning oil due to the cylinder walls being made of this plasma liner. What does this mean if it is burning oil at 24,000 miles? What should I do? How much damage is it causing? Also should probably the mention the strange noise people are talking about on the deceleration around 1500-2000 RPM. Does anyone know if the TSB’s work for anything to do with the 5.0 issues? I appreciate the help guys, hopefully someone out there can put my mind at ease or at least educate me on what to come in the future. There seems to be a million different answers online pointing in different directions and I need a solid truthful response. Sorry for the length of this post and thank you kindly for taking the time to read it.
Update: Called my dealer today and talked for about 30 minutes about it. They say a lot of people have came to them with the 5.0’s that have “excessive” oil burning BUT they said it is normal for the 5.0’s to burn some oil. I’ll be doing the oil consumption test with them and we’ll see what’s what. Was always told new engines shouldn’t burn any oil at all but I don’t know what to think about it all.
Are you having any issues now? If not, enjoy the truck. IF you are, take it to the dealership since it's still under warranty.
@mrrangerzr1
According to the dipstick the oil level does appear to be low but not terribly low. It was changed around 1,500 miles ago or so.
I agree with the above comment. Although the, if you are worried that it may happen for your truck, sell your truck and buy another model if you can not live with this thought.
@yaser
Have you heard of or know anyone else with the same issues and if they had any luck with finding a reliable fix? Majority of people I see online with the same issues say they take it in for TSB’s and such and it fixes nothing.
@yaser
If I’m being too paranoid please tell me because I want the truth. I love Ford and always have and I know all vehicles have their issues here and there BUT at the very least I’d like my very expensive pickup to not be burning oil at under 30k miles. It seems absurd to me but maybe I’m being ridiculous
I haven’t heard about this issue, and I don’t say you are ridiculous, i’m saying that if you want to be worried all the time, it really does not worth it keeping the car.
@yaser
If you don’t mind me asking you what would you do if you had any newer vehicle burning oil with such low mileage?
I would ask the dealer to fix it under warranty. They probably do they after doing oil consumption test. If they don’t accept, contact the Ford company for the issue. Hopefully, one of these works. Do not worry too much and do something about it.
If you don't have any issues, you have no case. If you're burning oil or whatever, you can address that to the Ford dealership, give them 2-3 chances to fix it, if not lemon law it and get a tundra.
We have a 2019 Ford F-150 but we put a flatbed on it. It's 5.0 liter 10-speed. First problem was 10-speed linkage, that got fixed. Then it burns oil, a lot. Ford wouldn't fix it even after 3 visits, so my dad had my uncle put steel bore inserts put into the engine, new pistons, rings, and other stuff. Now it almost 10,000 miles since fix, it runs great, no smoke, no oil problem, like our 2015 F-150 5.0 liter.
