Hi Scotty,
At the beginning of last year I bought an '18 ecodiesel Grand Cherokee Summit 4x4 new from a dealer in Seattle, WA, flew out (found a cheap flight), and drove it back to NC. I know how much you ADORE FCA vehicles and I imagine the Italian-designed engine makes your heart skip a beat or two. Sorry, but she's not for sale {black}:sweaty:
Anyway, with the car sitting on a dealer lot in the PNW for that long without really being driven (had 71 miles on it when I took possession, and a solid chunk of those were from the salesman driving it to the airport to pick me up), what are some things I need to look out for? With the car being an FCA Jeep, what are some things I need to look out for? 😆 😆 😥
In the 19 months I've had it I have put 36k miles on the odo and am now in a situation where I have to put new tires on it even though they're rated for 65k. I figured the time spent sitting through all four seasons twice may have degraded the rubber, but I also know there was an issue with one being out of balance after a rotation, and later found out that instead of actually balancing the wheel, the local dealer just moved it to the back. It's this type of slow-burn stuff that has me worried my money pit will turn into a money canyon.
Thanks for any pointers, love your YT channel!
As it ages there is propensity for random electrical issues (gremlins), but the elephant in the room is that Ecodiesel engine, one of the worst diesel engines out there and had a lot of issues. See link below: It is an Italian designed engine (designed by VM Motori), and see Scotty’s assessment of it at 3:10 below.
