Should I keep my Murano

2018 Nissan Murano SV o v6 Automatic 56k miles.

Hi Scotty,

My wife has  nissan murano suv which she likes because of its tech features ( blind spot detection, etc). But I'm aware thanks to watching your videos about Nissan that its quality sucks. I tried to see if the model she has will have issues with engine or transmission but so far it seems reliable.

I'm a toyota guy and have been. I found out that Lexus has some of the same tech features as nissan so I am hoping I can convince her to trade it in.

How much time do you think we have before the nissan showed its true colors.

if it works then I'd say keep driving it. But at the first sign of trouble ....

My brother in law had one( a bit older) and sold it with 140K and never had a problem with it.

He said it was one of the most reliable vehicles he's ever owned

Believe some of what you read, not all of it.

As long as you take care of the vehicle and service the fluids there is little chance of catastrophic failure. The transmissions aren’t bulletproof but lack of maintenance is a huge contributing factor in there demise. It is a belt driven transmission to improve fuel economy and efficiency they need to be flushed. My Murano has 230k on it and it’ still drives and shifts perfectly. They aren’t junk just more often than not they are not properly maintained

What year is yours? Also, do you work for Nissan?

Mine is a 2009 and yes I do I am Nissan master certified technician

consider the 2009 model is one of the worst model years of the Murano, that's rlly good. I also like how they look 🙂

As long as it still works fine then keep it the resale values are junk. The second you feel hard jerks or slipping etc. or anything minor then get rid of it. The newer 2016 2017 + ones are actually decent it might go another 50k miles before anything major. Just change your tranny fluid every 30 40k miles, so you should be close to changing it.

I looked on carcomplaints and found that tranny issue reports are rolling in on 2015 2016 models but not the newer ones odds are you should still keep it for another 1 or 2 years, or until any transmission issues pop up that are minor.

so far the 4th gen xtronic cvt which came out in 2019 hasn't had any problems so far, so just praying for the best.

Just keep driving it and maintain it nicely, you never know how long they will last.
