2019 Murano Front Clunking Sound.

Hey Scotty! first of all, I know I shouldn't have purchased a Nissan. However after previously owning three with over 160K miles each on CVT's with no issues (followed manufacturer maintenance schedules to the T). I am also currently the owner of an Infiniti Q50 hybrid without any issues my wife and I decided to purchase our first SUV since we have a newborn, and we went with the Murano.

The dealer has replaced the left front strut, bearing and strut mount under warranty and when I brought it back in and drove with the tech he states the continued clunking noise is "normal operation". Of course this is their way of saying idk what it is. Non the less, I feel its the right front strut now, and after four attempts I am in the process of starting a lemon law claim against Nissan. Upon repurchase I will get a Rav4, highlander or a Honda Passport. I uploaded a video of me re creating the issue, I actually took it this morning (I am documenting the continued issue for the lemon claim) in a parking lot. At first I would hear the clunking going over bumps but now if I "rock" the car by turning left and right quickly it is recreated easily.

Here is the link to the video from YouTube.. Don't mind the rubbing sound of my belly rubbing against the center console 😆 . Listen for a low toned "thud or "clunk" especially when I'm turning the wheel left and right. BTW it has 20K miles, the issue started at around 19,500 miles.

Do you think it could be the right front strut or something else?

Thanks for your time reading my post, keep up the great work!

Edit -

Hey guys here is a follow up, I tried going again to the dealer after they saw the video posted earlier.. they didn't repair it much less inspect it, they drove other older pre owned Murano's and said its a normal noise... it clearly isn't. and in fact omitted that the tech raised the car and was able to re create the noise in the driver side suspension area.. but instead of fixing it he said its normal.

any who, here is the actual R.O. my lemon claim is now stronger. wish me luck!

Still under warranty so you have to deal with the stealership. Contact the service manager and corporate. If you can lemon it, that would be the best option for you now and down the road.

@mrrangerzr1
exactly, I started the lemon claim but I am wondering what it could be, I'm guessing many things at this point but figured I'd give it a shot to see if anyone on here has had or seen this.

The creaking noise in the video sounds like something is binding up. It most likely is from one of the struts or could be something else. If they put it in the air and inspect everything, they can easily point it out, but they won't. That's how they are.

Hi so just for purposes of trying to pinpoint the issue I decided to record the engine bay and I turned the wheel all the way to the right and then to the left, I also brake torqued to test the mounts.

At the beginning of the video (around 2 seconds) as I am turning you can hear a pop. and as I am turning again (around 10 seconds) you can faintly hear it as well. Inside the car it makes the same "clunk" or "thud" however with the hood opened it sounds like a "pop"

I want to know based on this video if you have any other ideas on what it could be, The motor doesn't appear to move a lot, I moved from park to drive a few times and also brake torqued with the E-Brake down all the way.

Again, I appreciate all the input as I try to get this issue resolved and hopefully help someone else out in the future.

So i went again this time to another dealer. I was actually told that its normal because the power steering is "fuel injected".. i couldnt stop laughing and just asked for my keys. I emailed scotty a copy of the R.O. and he replied also in disbelief.

Nissans (especially the small cars) have terrible clunking from the sub-frame bushings.

Those far too low miles for such an issue, but if there is a manufacturing defect ..... who knows?

I can verify that’s absolutely true!
