I bought a brand new 2020 Accord LX 1.5L CVT in May of 2020. I love the car, everything about it. However in May of 2021 I hit a raccoon. It damaged my intercooler and a couple other things. My engine began misfiring in June this year. Instead of typing everything out, I will embed the paper I typed out to give to the dealer I tool my car to. Note, I have taken the car in 4 separate times to get this problem fixed. To no avail so far has the issue been identified or fixed.
As of now my car is at jeff wyler honda and they will be taking apart my entire engine Tuesday 9/7 to see if they can find anything.
What should I do if they can't fix it?
When car acts up I get codes P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304.

1. Did the car overheat at any point in time (before or after the accident)?

3. You’ll need to find a good independent shop/mechanic in your area who has excellent diagnostic skills. The dealership is only interested in swapping parts.
Scotty lives in Clarksville, TN (if you’re interested in having him diagnose what’s going on, set up an appointment with him - scottykilmer@gmail.com with the subject as repair appointment Clarksville/or something similar).
No it has never over heated. The dealer is actually going to tear down the engine on Tuesday to see if they can find anything.
Tearing down the engine? Seriously? Please remove your car from this dealership butcher to an independent mechanic. When the dealer is done with you, you"ll be broke and naked. By the way, how big was the raccoon?
Makes no sense and I would really be concerned about their ability to tear the engine apart and get it right putting it back together.
Idk if they're truly "tearing down" my engine, but they are taking it apart. So, possibly tearing it down. Idk what to do bc this is free to me under my 3 year/36k mile warranty. If I took it to an independent mechanic it would cost me.
Yes go to an independent mechanic first the dealers are all crooks pray it didn't damage the engine
I would, but I can't afford it. This is all free from Honda since it is still under the factory warranty.
Do you think this misfiring issue is due to it being a 1.5T with oil dilution?
It might be something as simple as spark plugs or the fuel injector but I’m not sure that would be my guess I would recommend bringing it to a trustworthy mechanic they can’t do anything about it
They replaced my fuel injectors, but didn't work. Spark plugs are in good shape. Dealer is tearing down the engine Tuesday to see if they can find anything.
It's hard to see what they'd find that would relate to a misfire by tearing the engine apart that they wouldn't find with a dealer level scan tool, compression test, etc. Given the complexity of today's engines the idea of a dealer tearing one apart and trying to put it back together right is pretty scary. If these guys can't find the problem it's probably time to get Honda corporate involved. Don't car companies still have field reps to check out difficult cases that dealers can't solve themselves?
I would get out there early Tuesday morning before the service department opens, get in there first thing and put a stop to them taking that engine apart.

Honda East did contact American Honda and AH told HE to run full diagnostics on the car while driving, idle, etc... They sent all the data to AH and everything was "up to spec"........ and to give the car back to me. After they said this the car failed the next day and they found the intercooler gasket missing. But still, whatever the issue is it still exists.
"Taking apart" and "tearing down" an engine are the same thing. The idea wouldn't fill me with confidence but hopefully they won't make matters worse.
Unfortunately this is all I can afford since it is free under warranty. I will contact American Honda if they don't find anything, can't fix it or give me the "it should be fixed" answer. I'm done with this car.
