2022 Honda CRV Oil Dilution

My wife is looking at buying a 2022 Honda CRV EX-L (1.5L I4 16V GDI DOHC Turbo Engine) with about 40,000 miles on it. Overall it still looks and drives like brand new. I remembered hearing about the CRV having the gas/oil dilution issues a few years ago, so out of curiosity I pulled the dipstick...and the oil smells like gas. The employees at the dealership assured me that this problem was fixed years ago, didn't apply to the 2022 model, and only was an issue with CRVs in cold climates. They still could not explain why the oil in this particular 2022 CRV smells like gas. Is this something we should be concerned about? Thank you!!

Well, if the oil smells like gas, don't buy the car. Obviously it wasn't maintained right? You're going to get a little delusion if you're on. Really dirty oil for too long. And of course wants to damage is done. You can't on fix it. I d just look for another car. I wouldn't buy that one

TBH, I don’t think the problem was really fixed.

I can’t remember if it was Honda or another company, but when they had oil dilution issues, they just changed the oil specification as a fix, which really didn’t solve the problem, IMHO.

Whether new or used… If you do a bunch of short trips, and live in colder climates, let probably best to avoid.

Supposedly the oil dilution is less likely to occur in moderate to hotter climates, and if you do longer trips in the car where it gets to warm up properly.

For that specific Honda you are looking at, it’s a gamble.

If you do end up getting a Honda with potentially known oil dilution issues, it’s best to do oil changes more frequently.

Or if you don’t want to deal with, just avoid the car all together.
