My mom owns a 2023 Hyundai Venue SEL. She bought it new in December 2022 and now has roughly 13,000 miles. Are there any known problems with the Venue such as the 1.6L I4 or Smartstream IVT? Mom's never had any issues yet.
hard time looking for a small economy car for commuting
korean cars sound cheap up front, but you end up paying one way or another
Mom is a taller person, so a Corolla or Civic just couldn't cut it. I recommended her a 1999-2005 Buick LeSabre, but my parents don't like GM. I think she should've bought a used LeSabre rather than a new Venue.
@imperator This particular one was made in Korea, so it’s one of the better ones. Not to mention that most Toyota invetory was either out of state or in Philadelphia (5 hour drive from us.) Same with Subaru and Honda. And the Subaru, Toyota, and Honda dealers that had inventory near us were charging too much.
there's a good reason. You get what you pay for.
@imperator For sure. My sister now drives this. Prior to her driving, she would ride a 2015 Thomas school bus with the 6.7L Cummins and an Allison automatic. I agree for sure, maybe was a better idea to go out of state (OH, WV, MD) for a Toyota, Subaru, or Honda. That or a used Ford Five Hundred AWD.
And my sister would've been better off continuing the ride the bus or getting a used Civic.
There are a many problems in general that Hyundais are prone to, such as oil burning, engine failure, transmission failure, and spontaneously bursting into flames.

Good to know, mom plans on doing plenty of preventative maintenance.
Her prior car was a 2020 KIA Sportage LX AWD, which had been leased. Rising car prices meant she had a REALLY hard time looking for a small economy car for commuting, although my Dad and I have gone into Johnstown in this car with no problems.
Update: My sister now drives this, and my mom’s got a 2-year lease on a ‘24 IONIQ 5.
