2023 Toyota Highlander
Had it one month. 860 miles. I turn the auto start/stop off. When idling in drive at an intersection, the engine sits at about 800/900 revs. Then drops to 500 and starts rattling. Taken it to a dealer under warranty. They found a loose exhaust connection (it’s brand new!) and said they fixed it. But within a day the engine rattle is back and the revs jump around when idling in drive. Have had to put the auto on/off back on to stop it. Rattling stops when put in park or when you drive off. Help please!
I sure will - just wondering if anyone has any ideas about the cause?
1 cause would be a lack of pressure in the exhaust system! I like Toyota, but not a fan of the new 4 cylinder turbo engines or the overwhelming amount of electronics they're using now...
Thanks! Something to mention to the garage when I take it next week
take it back. They didn't fix it right.

I don't know. A lot of things rattle. When I troubleshooting car problems like that I need the car in front of me, because it is a hands on process of elimination by testing and trying things, listening, and proceeding based on results. I don't ask people on a forum to throw darts at dozens of possibilities on a dartboard based on virtually no data because it's not super productive or accurate. If I go to a garage and tell the mechanic that "people on the internet said ...", he is going smile and say "uh huh" as he walks me to the door.

When you do take the Highlander to the dealer, it's best not to offer an opinion on "what might fix it, etc".. Just state why you've brought your vehicle in and stop there.
It surprises me how often people treat a service writer as if he/she were their personal, friendly mechanic. They are not, they're in sales...
My point is always let that service writer take on the responsibility of diagnosis - period.
