Scotty, I was tightening a bolt for the idle pulley on my 08 crown vic, apparently it was too tight and now the bolt came out and broke some of the timing cover off, and it broke the inside as well, and now there is a hole straight through into the timing area and there are pieces of the cover inside the timing which now would be making knocking noises...
What's the best way to fix the mount hole and and get the broken debris out of the timing cover?
You should have never started that engine after the cover broke.
You'll need to replace the cover (can't fix it) drop the pan & clean out the pick-up screen. If you're lucky there's no permanent damage. I'd pop off the valve covers as well just to make sure no debris made it up there. Check the plastic guides for damage too.
You don't list mileage but at that age I'm guessing it's nearing time for a new timing set & pump, while it's apart it wouldn't hurt to get it out of the way.
When I started the car at the time I was not aware that there was damage inside. When i heard the noise I turned it off, I did not drive it like that. So I'm hoping it didn't do damage to the chain & what not.
So I will open it, replace the timing cover, and hopefully be able to clean what is in inside and be on my way of all goes well God willing
