Parking a vehicle for over a month

Hey Scotty. I have a 2022 Subaru Forester. Finally, I'm planning on taking a 6 week vacation this year - hopefully. I don't want a dead battery when I get back and I live in a condo with no power outlet nearby - so can't use a trickle charger. Is it ok to disconnect my battery? Will it cause any kind of problems for the computer or anything else? What is the safest way to do this and will I ruin my battery? Any other info you can provide will be useful too. Thanks, Greg.

Remove the battery, take it to your condo and put it on a tickler.  Your battery will stay good and nobody will steal your car.

Assuming there's no way of venting, won't they have to worry about hydrogen gas accumulation?

I'm not sure at what point that would become an issue in regards to home size but over that length of time it seems like a possibility.

Are you joking?  The tickler charger shuts off automatically, mine does.

My charger(s) doesn't shut off automatically, whether it's in trickle, charge or jump you really have to watch it & maintain some ventilation if you're indoors.

Disconnect the negative & put a dish glove over the cable, you'll be fine.

If the car will be parked where it gets good sun you could use a solar battery maintainer.

Great idea!

If there's power where it's going to sit, you could put a battery maintainer on it.

Hi Scotty,

I'll be going away for 8 weeks and was wondering if you recommend I disconnect my truck battery? If so, a full disconnect or just disconnect the negative?

It's a 2008 Toyota Tundra, crew cab, 5.7L V8 SR5, with 107k miles, never had issues with it, runs amazing. It will be stored in a garage with temperatures usually between 45-55 degrees. I bought it third hand, I have never changed the battery, I don't know if and when it was changed.

Many thanks you legend!

I forgot to add, their is no power outlet nearby

Disconnect the negative cable at the battery and wrap the terminal in a piece of cloth so it doesn't ground.  Or, just get a Black&Decker tickler battery charger to keep it fresh.
