5.7 hemi oil concerns

I own a 2016 ram 1500 5.7 hemi 4x4.

When I was younger I was taught, during an oil change, to fill with oil until it reached the full mark on the dipstick. That being said, the manufacturer calls for 7 quarts to be added. After letting it sit and drain to the bottom, the dipstick shows only half, right in the middle of add/full. (observed several oil changes)

why does manufacturer call for 7 quarts if it's only half full. I know the truck isn't going to make more oil. is this some conspiracy between car/oil company's to charge more and give less? Or am I missing something vital here? 😕

I need to know so I don't come unglued on the oil change technician next oil change, arguing that he didn't fill it correctly.

the hatched area on the dipstick is the optimal range for oil level. It can be anywhere in there. It doesn't need to be all the way to the top line. They probably say 7qt to prevent people from overfilling it (which could be bad). Or because it's easier to buy oil in whole quarts.
