74 corvette engine stalls

Hi Scotty, I have a 74 corvette with 74,000 miles, automatic, as soon as I shift it to drive it would stall. I checked for vacuum leaks. I have not found any.

I’m assuming that it may need a new brake booster. When I depress the brakes, they are on the floor. I tried to bleed the system but I broke off the bleeder screw so I couldn’t bleed them.

I guess I’m going to have to buy new front calipers in order to bleed the system. Do you think after bleeding the brakes, the car will no longer stall when I shift it to drive or reverse? Or do I need to change the booster also? Or is there another issue that is causing the vehicle to stall?

Any thoughts,

Thanks, Jeric

You should check ALL your calipers as they are all suspect of leaking brake fluid because of their faulty design by utilizing a o-ring seal ON THE PISTON and having it scrape across the cast iron caliper halves... I had Red 74 Vette.   Before you even worry about the engine stall....worry about killing some one... NEVER drive with a brake pedal which is not firm...

They sell stainless steel insert calipers for these price with exchange.

from my experiences  tinkering with cars, if you have a brake booster failure the pedal  would be hard to depress. pedal  to the floor for brakes is always a sign of pressure loss  from air in the brake lines or possibly something has split? or loose. car stalling could be low idle speed, poor carburetor adjustment, timing not right, if it had a vaccum leak in most cases it would idle higher from what i have experienced  with cars. i am not a certified mechanic, just giving some input or possible direction for what could be causing this
