so i have a 1991 chevy silverado 5.7 liter v8 2500 with 175,000 miles on the odometer. I replaced the engine temperature guage sensor with a duralast one and also replaced the thermostat with a duralast one. Both have been replaced at the same time one year ago. I noticed that my temperature guage wasn’t going up all the way it only went up 1/8th of the way and i knew the engine should be warm by then, and i can here some sort of a grinding sound coming from the engine bay as well, what could be the problem?
Gurgling sounds quite often are associated with blown head gaskets.
Get yourself A combustion leak tester and check for exhaust gasses in the cooling system.
Also check to make sure the cooling system is topped off. Exhaust gasses in the cooling system can displace coolant. If the is air rather than coolant around the temp sensor you may get a low temp reading.
You can check your engine temperature against your gauge with the use of a scan tool.

But could it just be something as simple as the thermostat being stuck? And no i don’t here a gurgling sound it’s more like a grinding sound
