I have a 96 ford ranger and the pitman arm is flopping around and I drive it 35 miles to work and back everyday...how long before it breaks??
You're kidding, right? That thing needs to be changed immediately. Every time you take that vehicle out on the road in that condition you are endangering yourself and others.
It's your daily, 70 miles round trip and its "flooping". Sounds its already pretty broken to me. Might want to look into getting that thing fixed. You don't want a wheel flying off or something when your heading to or from work right? I mean it could be something simple like you need a new bushing but since its been flopping for a hot min I'm assuming you might have more probs than that.
The pitman arm is possibly the 2nd most important safety piece in your car after the brakes. That is what transfers steering input from the steering box to the steering linkages. If that breaks, your front wheels will do basically whatever they want, be it aim straight or, sticking out sideways. They will also no longer be linked to the steering box, neither will be responsive to the wheel. Change that puppy right away.
Just stay out of Florida!
Or sell it to the guy with the dry rotted tires.
He's up for adventurous driving!
