99 Lexus LS400 Transmission

I have a 1999 Lexus LS400 with 305K miles. The vehicle makes a low sounding hum and a subtle but noticeable vibration that can be felt in the the accelerator pedal at a full stop in Drive. No matter the running temp this occurs, thought the vibration becomes more intense when cold. The vibration is carried to the drivers seat when the car is accelerating from 38-55mph.

The vibration goes away when put in neutral at all speeds.

Is this something to worry about?

Probably not good. But you might get lucky so check your engine and transmission mounts. 2 are easy to replace. One is harder.

Not with that many miles realise you are reaching the end of the normal lifespan of that vehicle. Do not expect perfection from now on without spending a smalle fortune as time passes

Is there a benefit to rebuilding the transmission now compared to waiting till it breaks?

Probably bad news but check your engine and transmission mounts first. They commonly fail and can produce some of those complaints.

Odds are that your transmission has some issues. Maybe the torque converter. Check it with a mechanic who works on transmission.
