A/C issues with my 2013 Scion XB

I have 2013 Scion XB, has a little under 30,000 miles. I had been having the issue that the ac takes a while to cool. Usually 5-10 minutes and I have to be in drive for it to cool. I had it checked by a mechanic and he said it looked like the compressor was not building enough pressure to turn on. So I ordered a new one from Amazon, a denso for $350 and he installed it for $225. When I picked it up it was blowing hot so he checked and said he put too much gas. After letting some gas out it started blowing cooler but nowhere near as cool as the old compressor when it finally kicked on. He said it should start to cool after a day or so. I live in south texas so a/c is essential. I’m gonna take it back to him so he can check it. I just want to know what the issue could be so I can bring it up. Thanks!!

It's pretty obvious that the mechanic you used doesn't understand how to properly diagnose AC systems and was using the parts cannon. Who knows if the compressor was even really bad. You need to take your car to a shop that specializes in air conditioning and there should be plenty of them out your way.

Update! The guy had my car for 2 days and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. He said he flushed the gas and replaced it. He was saying the only other thing it could be was the compressor. I’m gonna take it to a shop tomorrow and see what they say.

Apparently, your mechanic does not know how to fix it. Take the car to a shop who works on AC systems.

Stop going to people who don't have the skills and experience to do the job right.  This is a specialty system and requires a special technician, not some every day wrench twirler.

Yes the guys didn't commenting boob had an actually by putting too much refrigerant in he could have wrecked the compressor and it won't ever work right now I would go somewhere else and make that guy pay for it or at least get your money back from that clown

Update 2 - I took to a shop to have it checked  and they found I had a bit too much Freon. The did a vacuum test and said that was ok too. They also put in some dye and asked me to come back in a few days to check. I talked to the original guy and he insist it a bad compressor and wont give me my money back. If ends up being the compressor I have 30 days to return it. Might just have to eat that money I paid to have it installed.
