Hey Scotty I own a 2001 Chevrolet Impala 3.4 with an automatic transmission and 145,000 miles. Car shuts off at low speeds, shakes hard and fast at speeds below 35mph, rides and runs better around 40mph of more. Dealership diagnosis throttle body in need of cleaning, multiple vacuum lines dry rotted, throttle body cleaning and add new lines, was told $460 total including $150 diagnosis fee not sure what to think of this price any thoughts?

You could do it yourself. Simple stuff. The price is in line with what a dealer would charge, though $150 diagnostic fee for a Chevy dealer is high. Usually they are around $75 - $100.

But yeah, you can do it yourself and save a lot of that money.

Hey thank you, good to know. They also told me the vacuum lines would take a day because they had to be bent/shaped at the factory before shipping do you know this to be true?

They should have those in stock. Even if they didn't, there's no way they could be made at the factory and arrive next day in time to be installed. That doesn't sound right to me.

Right? I had the same feeling. Also please forgive my ignorance but does the Emission Control Vacuum Harness Assembly contain all vacuum lines need to replace all that the vehicle has? It contains the PCV valve hose and couple rubber lines. Thanks

Not necessarily all of the lines will be in there. Every car is different as far as where they are routed. Some are around the intake manifold, etc. You should be able to get a diagram online that shows you how yours are run though. Just make sure you get good, tight connections with the new hoses and clamp them appropriately where applicable. You'll be fine. 🙂

I would just replace the lines and clean the TB myself. It's easy.

Thank you.

Do it yourself!  You will save money from not having to do it at a dealership.

The only goal dealerships have is to rip you off.  Do it yourself, be proud.

Most of them would rip off their own grandmothers to make a buck.
