[Solved] AC doesn't work when it's hot out

Hello, I hope y'all are well.

My brother has a 2012 Ford Fusion with almost 200k on it.

When it gets really hot out (hot in Maine terms), the AC will work for a second then just start blowing hot air. He had work done on his car a year ago to get the AC recharged, as well as several lines replaced. I'm sure it isn't a refrigerant problem because when it's mild out it works perfectly.

Could this be an electrical issue, because these Fusions tend to have them, or a bad thermostat?

Send me any ideas, I appreciate it.

It could well be low on refrigerant. A year is plenty of time to lose some if you have a leak.

Personally, I've found that with A/C problems, it's best to go to a pro.

Down here in "Green Hell" AKA Florida, a working A/C is a must. Trying to fix it yourself without the knowledge and proper tools is a fools errand, IMHO, go to a shop and have the system pressure checked. Have them recharge it and put in some U V dye. If after awhile the A/C diminishes, under black light, the pro can easily find the leak. A/C parts aren't all that expensive, the cost of repair is mostly getting to the bad part.

just added a squirt of refrigerant to an accord, worked fine, used very little so as not to cause an issue
