- Is amsoil good? It's expensive than OEM or any other oil. Is it worth it as they explain about engine protection and more milage? Does it make our engine run smoother? As I've seen a lot of people saying it makes a lot of difference.
Waste of money. And DEFINITELY don't run it for their recommended length between changes. Unless you love going through engines anyway.
If you believe anecdotal statements and the company sales pitch, go ahead. I do not. If the oil I want to use meets the API rating and the correct weight for my vehicle, I'll use it. I am not interested in paying extra for somebody's name on a container. Just my personal opinion.
It's good oil, nothing wrong with it but the price. Having run engines to very high mileage using regular mass-market brands of oils with no problems it's hard to see where Amsoil would have made any material difference.
Most of that stuff is a gimmick sales pitch. As Doc says, oil is oil, as long as the weight is right for your vehicle and it has the API seal. You're not going to get noticeable gains in MPG by using their oil vs Walmart oil. Using heavy and lightweight oil will slightly reduce MPG, but not enough to be noticeable, unless taken to an extreme. If you're using the correct weight oil for your engine, this won't matter. Those "ceramic" additives and such they claim to make the engine run smoother are more or less snake oil. Most of the energy your engine wastes from the gasoline is waste heat, not friction loses.
I have a Toyota gt86 and I used to service it with Toyota genuine oil. I changed my engine oil yesterday using the motul one instead of the Toyota and I could feel hell lot of difference in how the engine works. So I was wondering what makes a car smooth even though they are same graded oil but different brands. It's actually confusing and I've seen a lot of people genuine users recommending amsoil. It's confusing 😆
I guess Amsoil makes good oil, but I can't stand those Amsoil commercial videos they have on Youtube. If you care for your engine's internals, use a premium oil that fullfills the factory spec.
I love their transmission fluid, I have seen much better results myself, and many others that have cars with bad transmissions, doing much better with amsoil.
As for their motor oil, I just don't see it being that much better so as to spend quite a bit more for it.
