Are these services necessary?

Dealership service dept is trying to get me to buy these services for my wife’s 2017 Honda Odyssey with 70000 miles. Are any of them valid?

Brake Fluid Service - $156.49

Power Steering Fluid Service - $144.72

Transmission Drain/Fill - $101.12

I feel the only valid service is the transmission fluid, but I’m pretty sure I can do that myself. I’ve just never heard of the other fluids ever needing to be replaced before.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture and should be changed every few years. Probably a bit aggressive on the power steering fluid but changing it periodically is not a bad idea. If you are mechanically inclined you should be able to do them all yourself for minimal cost. (The cost of the services quoted is mostly labor plus inflated pricing for dealer-provided fluids.)

Did you look in the owner's manual? Are they due? Did they give you a exceptional reason to change them now?

I'm not an expert on your model of vehicle, but it seems a bit too early for power steering and brakes.

Also realize that just because a fluid is due for replacing, it doesn't have to be immediately. +/- 5,000mi isn't going to make a huge difference. So if you can't afford everything in one go, then just do one service every month or whatever you can manage.

Check your owner’s manual.

Check the manual... I always seem to overlook the obvious 😂

This might help with power steering fluid.

I use the Honda fluid though. And only refill it once every few years.

20 years and no problems.

Since you're at 70k, the transmission is the only one I would maybe consider (I do my trans fluid changes--not a flush--just a drain and refill) every 60k on my vehicles.

Brake and power steering should be done as needed and usually aren't necessary until 150k at least (unless you have signs of problems, like a leak and/or air in the brake lines or dirty power steering fluid).    But I would do the transmission fluid.  Just don't flush -- drain and refill only I think on Hondas (at least that's what it was on my 97 Civic--Honda said NOT to flush the system).  And make sure you use the Honda transmission fluid.
