Hi,
I have a 1993 Nissan Sunny. I wanna know if my car is going to sit in my home garage for few weeks, Is disconnecting the negative terminal enough or should I disconnect both terminals from my battery to keep it from dying by the time I wanna start it again?
Thanks!
Disconnecting one terminal breaks the circuit. Disconnecting two terminals is pointless.
You probably don't need to disconnect it at all, since your 1993 won't have a lot of electronics.
To prevent battery self-discharge, you could connect a trickle charger.
@mountainmanjoe My battery usually dies pretty quickly (Brand new battery, only 3-4 months old). I am disconnecting the battery because something is sucking the power out of the battery & I have a bad alternator. It gives like 13.1v to charge the battery. Not 14.3v.
So even if I started the car and drove it for few miles, it's not gonna charge much. That's why I need to disconnect the battery until I get a new alternator.
fair enough. You should fix your battery drain or else the problems will continue. Your batteries won't last very long, and your alternator is going to be working overtime.
Removing only the negative terminal should work.
