I have a 2014 Toyota Camry SE with approximately 41,000 miles. When I turn the heat on the fan speeds are not only inconsistent, but the motor slows down and makes an odd sound as if it's struggling to run. This goes away and comes back. Went to the local Toy$#$ de$$er and paid $90 for diagnostic charge. Was told they could not replicate the problem, even though I recorded the noise. I have researched this issue over and over. It seems to be either the resistor failing or the blower motor itself going bad or both. The diagram for the 2014 Camry shows the resistor being built into the blower housing. A few inquiries suggest that the problem could be with the control knob or some other electrical failure. I'm a loyal fan of Scotty on YouTube, would be thrilled to ask him about this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also if I bang on the bottom panel it seems to speed up again
If you don't give me another down vote, you can have a mechanic use bidirectional scan tool to test the AC control unit.
change blower motor and resistor
When the issue happens, try to wiggle the AC controller and see if it changes anything. If not, odds are that the resistor is acting up.
Thanks for the answer. The blower motor and resistor are part of the blower assembly. Is there another resistor hiding elsewhere? Older Toyotas had a separate resistor. I'm reasonably sure the part listed on the Toyota website has the resistor integrated into the housing. Toyota dealers said they don't sell many if these motors, but that's gotta be the problem 🙏🙏
Someone even said it could be the AC amplifier, now that's big time $$$ and really difficult to get at. New car HVAC systems are digitally controlled, Scotty help!
