I know you dont want to go out on a limb here, but in your experience, what is the best oil filter for the average person. I change mine every 3 to 4 thousand miles. But I worked at a Toyota dealership back in the mid 80s. Every Toyota with a bad engine, had a Fram filter on it. I stopped using them at that point. But am interested on your thoughts.
For the average person, just changing the oil filter is an accomplishment
Although Fram gets a bad rep, it 's mostly from their cheapest "Extra Guard" filters that are bright orange in color. I wouldn't use those personally (although I know many people who use them and haven't had any issues). But their high end filters are much more better made and are very good quality. Wix, Purolator, Bosch, Royal Purple, Amsoil, ACdelco, and Motorcraft also make great filters as well.
Fram Extra Guard, not the regular Fram.
I personally won't use Fram filters as well. Nowadays I stick with the OEM oil filters for my vehicles and avoid the cheap brands and the STP filters that AutoZone offers with their oil change specials, they're made in China and I don't trust the quality for such a critical component. Motorcraft and ACDELCO still make their filters here in the States, and they're only a couple dollars more than the cheap Fram and STP filters.
If Fram is so bad then why are they still in business?
Why is Kia still in business?
@theeel Because people keep buying them. Yes FRAM has a bad reputation but people keep buying them. FCA or Hyundai KIA have bad reputations and there’s more than enough evidence to support it but people keep buying their products. 🤷♂️
@mountainmanjoe
I try not to use Fram either. I usually get wix by the case and its like 3 or 4 bucks a filter. They are made in North Carolina but probably anything is fine.
I can't remember what filter I used last time but I'll remember to use Wix next time. Only thing is that 5 years from now people will be bad mouthing other brands (like Wix). Besides, can't you sue the oil filter manufacturer for a product that destroys your engine?
