Hello again! I called the local auto parts store to get a replacement brake switch and they were super helpful. But, the last thing he asked before ordering the part was "with ABS or without ABS." I told him without because my ABS light has been lit on my dash since I got the car. Could you further explain the difference and if it matters which one I get? Thanks!
Just call them back and tell them you made a mistake and to order you the right switch.
Their delivery trucks run between the stores and the warehouse 3 times a day.
They won't be mad at you
if your car was equipped with ABS then get the ABS one. I'm surprised there is a choice, since I've never seen a non-ABS vehicle in about 30 years.
You really ought to visit some ‘developing’ countries..
By that, do you mean that new cars in those countries are sold without ABS, or people in those countries are driving 30 year old cars? Or both?
Lol, both! But the concerning thing is that new vehicles are being sold without ABS as mandatory. Heck, even airbags aren’t mandatory, last time I checked! And crash ratings..what’s that?
But that doesn't really answer my question......does it make a difference since the ABS in my car doesn't work?
I answered your question in my first reply.
When your power windows break, do they magically turn into hand crank windows?
Umm, it’s irrelevant that the ABS presently, doesn’t work in your car. Your car (and the brake switch) was designed to work with the ABS module from the factory. It will mean that your replacement brake switch will have to be compatible with the ABS module moving forward.
Ideally, go by the part number. For sure your ABS equipped model will have a different part number, compared to a non-ABS model, even though it’s the same car/body shell.
I always found it helpful to bring the VIN with me to the parts store. Most outfits have a data base now so they can match the correct part to the vehicle. Sometimes, it saves a lot of headaches.
