Got brakes and rotors done at 185k about 2 years ago at the Toyota dealership while it was under a frame recall. Now the truck's at 209k and the rear brakes and rotors are shot again (pulsating with any type of moderate braking). Calipers look horrible in the front and rear so I'm planning on replacing them too.
Wondering if it's worth it to go with OEM parts($1000) or NAPA($800) parts, Advanced and Autozone are further away (30minutes) but not out of the question just have a napa 5 minutes away. It's a secondary work truck, not a daily driver so I was thinking of going with the NAPA platinum (middle-of-the-road rotors/brakes the ones with anti-corrosion protection added, I'm on the coast in MA so it needed).
Any insight on parts or holding off on the front brakes for a little longer would be appreciated.
Thanks for any advice.
Napa normally sells pretty decent parts. However you want to be sure on your rotors your not getting some cheap metal chinese knockoffs so they don’t warp easily. Calipers it really doesn’t matter. The remanned ones from Napa are same quality usually of OEM ones. You really gotta try to mess up rebuilding a caliper. And pads as usual I go with the lifetime pads at autozone, had good experiences with them and it’s nice to have pads for free while I own the car. Far as holding off on the front, if you do the rears and are still pulsating when stopping chances are one of your rotors is warped. I’d redo the back and if it drives ok wait until you have issues before doing the front. Now with that said if your back brakes wore out that fast, you are either towing/hauling alot or your front is not providing 90% of your stopping power like they should. Something to look at.
