Hello, i have a two thousand and ten toyota rav4 limited and the brake lights stopped working about a month ago. The brake switch has been changed. The bulbs have been replaced, which they were both blown. Once the bulbs were replaced the 2 bottom brake lights on either side of the car became illuminated. Will you turn on the lights to the car? But the third brake light at the top did not work. I have taken it to 3 mechanic shops. As of now, no one could seem to find the issue. The closest I got with a resolution was with the latest shop, which inform me that the brake switch that goes on the brake paddle was faulty. That was replaced, but it did not help the issue. They went back in and checked all the fuses and found that the stop lamp control relay was also blown. I ordered the part and replaced it today. The brake lights come on, but they stay illuminated, all three of them(which the third brake light would not come on at first at all), even when the car is off. Has anyone ever had this problem or know what else might be wrong?
Well it sure sounds like a wiring problem to me. Somehow you're getting power the whole time. Make sure that the sockets themselves aren't corroded that'll short things out. Make sure you have the correct bulbs and sometimes someone puts a wrong bulb in and then it goes on when it's not supposed to cuz the circuit's been compromised by the wrong type of bulb. And of course look in the trunk. A lot of times wiring gets meshed up by things in the trunk, hitting the wiring, bending things
