Broken Air conditioner

I have a 2004 Honda Accord with around 80,000 miles. The air conditioner stopped working. The fan still blows. I changed the air filter and nothing changed. There were no trouble codes when I scanned.

The car is nearly old enough to vote. It is likely that enough refrigerant has leaked out that the low-pressure safety switch is preventing the compressor from engaging. However it could be any of a number of issues. If you are not familiar with working on air conditioning take it to a good independent shop for evaluation. (Particularly if you plan to keep the car as long as possible. It's all too easy to make matters worse.)

Do yourself a favor and go to an A/C pro to find out what's wrong and get it done right.

I'd definitely take it to a pro if you don't have the knowledge on how the air conditioner works, at least as far as troubleshooting. The A/C doesn't put out trouble codes when it's not working correctly. Figuring it out requires a good bit of knowledge and safety because it involves highly pressurized refrigerants. I overhauled the air conditioner in my 22 year old Ranger last summer, but I knew from engineering school how they worked, and only needed to learn how to service one to actually repair it. That's how I came across Scotty's videos.
